The Reel deal with the Hobbit

Monday, February 25, 2008 0 comments

There are rumors going on that the hobbit will be made on film and that Guillermo Del Toro will be directing it, but there is no official green light about it yet. There are also rumors that it will be divided into two movies, but like the first these are mere speculations and GDT said that if it pushes through he will be true to the LOTR film by preserving the original cast of LOTR. This will be great news especially to fans like me, I just hope that this project pushes through although, I really wanted to see The Silmarillion on the big screen more than The Hobbit because its more mythological and grander in scope than the latter. Forbidden Love

I just want to share something funny and yet very creative stuff I found on the internet. It about the forbidden love between Abe and Kroenen, characters from the Hellboy world. I was checking out Guillermo Del Toro's official website when I stumbled upon this link. I think that it is not only funny but it is also fresh and creative. So check it out here http://abe-kroenen.livejournal.com/

Work in Progress

This blog is still a work in progress. I still feel that the design and tools I have here are not enough to make it more presentable. I am making an effort to update it everyday, but I guess writing doesn't come to me spontaneously, I must be compelled by something to write.

Nursing: Is it Bane or Boon?

Back when I was still highschool, I never actually thought that I would take nursing, in fact, I would always say, "nursing?!! (with tone of utter disbelief) I wouldn't take that. I don't want to wipe somebody else's ass." I was playing along with my studies, floating, getting my ass kicked, until suddenly I recognized my bitter predicament, that if I never do it seriously (my studies) my parents will kill me, and so I transferred to another school, that's the time when the nursing shortage began. My mother gave the idea of taking nursing because at that time, it was the most promising course (and when I say promising, I mean big bucks), and so I said, "alright, I will take nursing" and for four years my studies went well, and something unexpected changed, I began to love the course that I disgust a long time ago.
Helping people who are sick is rewarding. especially when they get well and you know that part of it was because of your hard work and dedication. A simple thank you from a patient, means a whole lot. It erases all the anxiety and all the stress of work in an instant. But then again, its not something you get everyday, there are patients who are irritable, irate, annoying, and list goes on, but a nurse should expect these, and if the nurse doesn't love what he or she does, its easy to breakdown and give up.
A while ago, I came back to my school because I need to furnish a recommendation letter for my application, and I saw nursing students. Unexpectedly I felt pity for them when I should be proud. I thought, "nursing: is it a bane or boon?"
I must be real here. Every year about more than a hundred thousand nursing students graduate, a quarter of it will become registered nurses and pass the local boards, but the thing is, how many hospitals out there can accomodate us all nurses? And whats more sad is about a small fragment of that hundred thousand can go abroad, because let's face it, there is this retrogression issue in America, a lot of countries abroad require a year or a couple of years of experience. So that means, a big percentage of that nurse pool will be stuck out there without jobs or doing jobs that are not related to nursing.
And so the choice is laid out and the truth is somewhere out there waiting to be found, I still believe that there is still hope, but until our voice lands on deaf ears, more and more nurses will suffer the same fate.
One word of advice to the weary child who wants to later become a nurse: "Choose wisely and listen to your heart, if you are compassionate and loves to care for others, then nursing is for you, but if you are thinking of big bucks, then don't do it."

26 Things about LIFE

I actually planned on my birthday to make an essay about my age. 26 things that I have learned about life and I can think of a lot actually, but I have put here the most profound. I cannot say yet that I am perfectly wise but I am sure I am definitely wiser than before. Here are the 26 things I have learned so far...
  1. Always be grateful of your life and everything that happened to you from the past till the present, be it good or bad, because even...
  2. Bad things happen for a reason. They make us stronger and wiser.
  3. First thing in the morning when you wake up, face the mirror and smile. It helps to make a good jumpstart.
  4. Thoughts become things. What you think is what you get.
  5. Pride is a selfish thing. It ruins everything.
  6. Revenge maybe sweet but it is pointless and thus isn't healthy.
  7. What you are right now is the product of how you were raised by your parents, your genes, and your environment.
  8. Luck favors the brave, because if you don't risk and do anything, then nothing will ever happen.
  9. It doesn't matter if you have a lot of friends what matters is that all of them are real.
  10. Real friends are few, so if you have one, treasure them because they are hard to find.
  11. Anger clouds judgement.
  12. If you have nothing good to say then don't speak.
  13. Words are powerful enough to break even the strongest of all bonds, so be careful in choosing words.
  14. Always be courteous and respect others.
  15. Trust and respect are gained but can never be forced.
  16. Give what you have and you shall recieve twice that which you have given.
  17. Be mindful of the time of others.
  18. When you will it, it will happen, because nothing is impossible if you persevere.
  19. Always say thank you when somebody compliments you, or helped you.
  20. And when somebody says thank you, say you're welcome, it pays to be polite.
  21. What is important is now, dont sulk about the past or be ever mindful of the future because...
  22. Time is so precious to be wasted, one it is lost, it is lost forever, so dance like you never danced before, sing like you never sang before, love like you never loved before and live well.
  23. Say sorry when you're at fault, it melts even the coldest of hearts.
  24. Once in a while watch a sunrise, or sunset, or trek with your friends and be amazed by God's wonderful creation. It will make you feel grateful, and at ease.
  25. What you dont have you cannot give, so love yourself and you will be loved.
  26. Always follow the golden rule: Treat others what you want others to treat you.

Change: Its Possible

Experts believed that about 200 babies will be born every hour this year, and most of them will be coming from poor families.

It just annoys me that people always blame the government for not competently implementing family planning especially among the poor. I say, most of us are blatantly ignorant about the situation. We can think of a thousand reasons why we can't avail of the government's contraceptive methods, they say the queue is so long they can't wait, or the clerks at health centers are unapproachable, or they are afraid of side effects this contraceptives have, they are afraid of their husbands, the methods are so hard to follow, and the list goes on. But have we asked ourselves, "what is going on in our country? what can i contribute to my country to address the looming population crisis? what can i do to become a change agent myself?"
I still believe that we can make our own destinies. God gave us free will for us to make choices, and in doing so become responsible for making our choices, that's why we are at the top of the food chain, that's why we have evolved, its because we are rational beings and that seperates us from animals.
The young generation now are becoming more and more promiscuous. What is more alarming is that even persons who had proper education and had medical knowledge like me are the ones who do not practice safe sex. Condoms should be a must-have.
I am afraid that if nothing is done to address this problem, this situation may become a hopeless case. Everybody has the right to know, to be informed, and I hope that this can help. I hope that my message will be heard and not fall on deaf ears, because this is only the tip of the iceberg, a part of a larger issue our country is facing. There is corruption, the economy and even on a larger scale is climate change. There are still a lot to do before we can even address at least one of the pressing issues of our time but we have to make a choice now to help our country one step at a time, addressing even the basic things that hamper our development, because when we accomplish small things we can do away with big things in the future and I think I did. How about you?

A Reason to Celebrate

The recent barangay and SK election was a tough experience especially to my parents. My father ran for the barangay captain post. Since the start of the campaign, the house was in constant utter chaos. There are people everywhere and tons and tons of dish work. It was very stressful not also to them (my parents) but to us (my sister and I) as well. But all the hard work has been paid well. My father was elected captain of our barangay (community). When he was declared the winner, it was a mix of emotions for me. I am happy for him, i hope he brings change to our community and that he proves to be worthy of the peoples vote.
